The Northport Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce it will field boys’ tournament teams at the 3rd through 8th grade levels.
Blessed with an abundance of talented players and coaches, we intend to develop the Northport Tigers Tournament Team program into one that will nurture Northport players with exceptional passion and skill for lacrosse for many years to come. Our high school and middle school coaches have consistently advised us that keeping our players together in the tournament season is the best thing for them as players developing their skills, and for stoking their passion for the game.
Because this is a “home-grown” program, it is exclusively for Northport Lacrosse Club registered players.
As we did last season, we will enter tournaments at all grade levels. It was fun for everyone to hang together and watch all the teams play. For those families with more than one boy playing at this level, we offer the convenience of playing the same events. Younger boys will play a few events local to Long Island. Older boys will play more events, some of them “away” events in nearby states .
Teams will be coached by both parent volunteers and student athletes. The Club will run this program on a not-for -profit basis. It will be very affordable.
When the Club holds evaluation sessions in January-February in preparation for the Spring season, players who make application for the tournament team will be evaluated by an independent group of coaches not associated with their grade. ALL are welcome to tryout. Initial selections will be made within a week of the evaluation session. At least six weeks before the end of the spring season, tournament teams will gather and begin to practice together. At this time, if necessary, additional selections will be made.
Playing time will be as close to equal as can be managed by the coaches, with full discretion given to coaches in the end of either very close or runaway games.
Summer time is vacation time for many families and many young athletes play more than one sport in the spring. The Northport Lacrosse Club Tigers Tournament Team we will require a strong commitment to the tournament team’s respective schedule of activities, including practices and events in their entirety.
We will be sending out more details after online registration for the 2009 season ends on December 5th, so please make sure you register as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Northport Lacrosse Club Tigers

P.S. We are exploring tournament team options for 3rd – 5th grade girls. We recognize that girls of these ages do not have an option to play lacrosse in the summer, so we will see if we can fill the gap. We’ll let you know.
